Essay Competition

We recently had the great pleasure of presenting the prizes for  a special essay competition sponsored by Sir Simon and Lady Virginia Robertson and Sir James Scott. As a long-time supporter of the Foundation, Sir Simon Robertson had set a challenge for students at the College to address an important issue of the day by answering the question:

“How can the current political economy be reorganised without undue disruption in order to reduce inequality within our society in the UK?”

Alton College students had risen to the challenge and produced comprehensive essays to address the question.   The winner of the competition, Lucy Bayliss, received £2,500 for her winning submission sponsored by Sir Simon and Lady Virginia Robertson.  The runner-up, Alf Hamer, received £750 sponsored by Sir James Scott.
